Here is an illustration I had to do in two days. It was really fun to do, It came to a point where I didn't even want to finish, I wanted to keep putting in more and more detail. This illustration is for an upcoming Children's book I just finished. It should be ready to be purchased by Christmas.

Also I wanted to show the process behind this illustration, its crazy how a simple drawing can have so much life after color has been added. I did several of drawings that wouldn't work because if the boat structure, once I left out some of the boats parts, it just didn't feel authentic.

I love the subtle color in this illustration, its really gray but I love this color palette.

I know I should not be showing these pages, but who cares Im really excited about this comic book I am working on. Finally I get put all my passions together! I get to draw, direct, write all in one project! The colors are far from final, and some of the frames I plan on changing but I really like the rawness of the inking. Im 15% done with the book, I had no idea how complicated this process was. Big up to all my favorite comic book artist and writers. Wow what a great year for potential, being an artist is a crazy thing! There has to be something a little wrong with you to be one. To constantly dream, and never wake up. Its like living on a cloud, ideas fuel these clouds..... almost all clouds just dissipate and vary few go on to a join a bigger cloud. When you latch on to that giant cloud is when you have made it! I will let you all know how that cloud feels one day.

This is all a reference from my past, I seriously had a wall filled with comic book art. It was named "Marvel Comic Book hall of Fame". I remember the overwhelming feeling my brother and I would feel as we where driven to the comic book store. He would dive to the bottom shelf where the bunk comics like Namor and Luke Cage where, and I would look at the top shelf for Spider-man, and X-men, Wolverine. But to give him credit he did introduce Spawn to me!

I was waiting for Entourage to start at 10pm and while It was on I felt like sketching, I went on and on and at one point said forget tv, lets take this one to the end. I did this one freestyle no pencil sketches, this type of drawing really helps build drawing chops. It makes one decisive and makes you think fast. I dont mean to brag about how fast I completed this, I am just saying that doing this everyday makes you confident and fast.

Comic Cruise

I wanted to show the process on how a illustration comes to life. The piece below is what the direction that the art director wanted to go. It was intended for a comic cruise during Comicon. Its a dark piece but it turned out to be a great piece.

The illustration below is my first go at it with colors. I lightly laid it out and I intentionally did not built up. I wanted to show the art director its potential, object placement. Its a light piece, this is what I would imagine a boat cruise to look like.

This is the sketch, I tried to get it as tight as I could. I do not like sending rough sketches to art directors, it lowers the back and forth changes.

I like to give as much variations to directors as I can. I like to attack angles, placement and size variations. The more the better especially since its pencil and it doesn't take long to redo.

Overall this was a great assignment. Its awesome how we all meet really great and cool people in our journey. The art director is a cool guy but now I even consider him a friend.

I did this piece with a untraditional dimension in mind. It had me stumped, and finally it hit me! Bam this image ensued. The dimension of the image and thinking how am I going to fill it makes me think logically which is the total opposite side of the brain when creating a image. To be honest when the two sides meet... a beautiful image occurs. Its no accident that I'm thinking about the sea life right now while the biggest oil leak disaster is occurring. Enjoy...

This was something I did for Ninja Warrior show, the art director wanted something like Hiroshige's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa". It was almost cut but it made it to the show. I like the way it turned out!

We have all been there before, we wak up wondering where the hell am I? I wanted to keep this one in sort of a muted tone. I started on the floor first so that I can keep in mind how I can color the rest of the body. I used some textures I found online, the floor really brought this whole thing to life. I kept thinking If I get the ground as janky as possible, people will really relate with the mood.

Im really big on process, and letting people know how things come to life. This was a painting I did for Open Market this past Saturday. I sold the painting and it pained me to sell it I didn't get to enjoy the final at all.

So I start it with a black and white drawing inked with a Japanese brush. This one was a fun one to do.

This one was fun! I really enjoy making these characters, Im writing a great story for this one. I think the armor is waaaaayy to simple but I like the shape and the face. I dont want to overwork these I just want bang these drawings out.

I like drawing behemoth (Ive always wanted to use that word but I could never find the right time to use it in a normal conversation) creatures with sort of a soft side. Something about having the power to beat the crap out of someone but isnt a bully about it is respectable. I start to think, where or how did this character pop in my head? And it goes back to "Labyrinth" great movie it was art directed by the great Brian Froud. There was this one character called Ludo, he looked like he could beat the crap out of anyone but doesn't.

Give yourself deadlines! Talent is based on repetition and the more one does it the faster and better they get. Im reaching a point where whatever I imagine i am executing to the T (if not better). I had plans today to pick up my girl but I thought to myself hey while I wait to go pick her Im gonna have a sketch for me to work on when I am free. She was running late and kept pushing the time I was supposed to pick her up. I made myself a deadline that by the time she is ready this illustration will be done. Bam! I did this illustration in about 2 hours.

This is an homage to my childhood. Break-dancing was the hottest dance craze in the eighties. There was a time when everybody and their moma's where break dancing. No joke, my mom encouraged it, asking me to bust a move when visitors came to our house. In my mind I was blowing people away!

This was done for a online radio station, this was a reject logo so I decided to play with the logo a little. I feel I've gotten into a funk with colors, so the last two entries I've been just going balls to the walls with color. Its a bit disturbing, and loud but its good to do something completly different than your use to.
